Mataheko drains receive attention

The drainage system at Mataheko, one of the biggest communities in the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the Accra Metropolitan Area, is receiving attention. According to the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Mr. Alban S. K. Bagbin, Phase I of the construction of drains which stated in 1990 was completed in 2001 (emphasis mine).

He said measures taken so far to control flooding in the areas included the removal of all obstacles in the drain to permit the free flow of storm-water.
Mr. Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, Member of Parliament (MP) FOR Ablekuma Central urged the area’s residents to refrain from throwing refuse into drains since (emphasis mine) it cost the government huge sums of money to clear choked drains.

Twin-City overwhelmed by filth

The Twin-City of Sekondi-Takoradi has been engulfed by filth …. Many of the street corners, pavements and bus stops in the metropolis have been turned into waste dumps (emphasis mine) and commercial vehicles are forced to use part of the street as their terminal.
Information available to the Daily Graphic indicates that the assembly owed the waste collectors (emphasis min). The situation is compounded by the fact that the assembly’s own waste department is not well-equipped to handle the escalating situation.

Ghanaian invents Biogas Technology

Nana Addo Donkor, an innovative entrepreneur, has devised a new and easy method of developing biogas (emphasis mine). The project, which started about a year ago, has a unique feature of generating biogas from waste food.
Biogas, which refers to gas made from anaerobic digestion of agricultural, animal and human waste, is also made up of a mixture of methane and Carbon Dioxide (CO2). It is used to power combustion engines or generate electricity. Nana said he came up with the technology after several trials on how to recycle waste food (emphasis mine).
Speaking to CITY AND BUSINESS GUIDE, Nana explained that when he collects the food waste, he mixes it with water and puts it into the digester to generate gas. The holder then captures the gas after it is generated
